The Universe finished the Big Bang and sighed with relief. It worked. Lots of beautiful nebulae, stars, protoplanets. And so much free space for the future. The potential was immense, and the Universe was looking forward to someone appreciating its work. But who? The galaxies frowned. Why did it even use the concept of time? A nice extra, but now everything has a limited lifespan. And it would be good to have someone map all these amazing things, tell stories about them, and experience them in silent awe. But who? The Q have already declared they won't do it, and lower species have yet to evolve. And even then, they will barely understand a thousandth of it all. So what about the rest? Planets that no one will ever visit, stars whose light will never reach anywhere, all of this can't just disappear because no one is interested in it.
And so the Universe created planet A, destined for a civilization composed of exactly 1024 artificial beings, Automatons. They are practically immortal, efficient, and patient, yet inquisitive and creative. Each Automaton is completely inorganic, yet it is much more than just a simple robot. It has a dual brain, which, in addition to powerful polyoptic processors, consists of an analog core built from the finest mechanics – a beautiful mechanism with gears the size of micrometers. And this core, unlike all other robots, computers, and other binary machines, allows them to fully experience the entire range of emotions without having to just programmatically emulate them.
Thanks to this, the Automatons observe, catalog, and explore the secrets of the galaxies with exactly the awe and humility that the Universe desired. Their refined taste is evident at first glance from the design of their streamlined ships. The Automatons are one of the few species to understand that what doesn't apply in a classic vacuum is important in all kinds of subspace, half-space, and interspace – in other words, that aerodynamics is key in faster-than-light travel. With ringing laughter, they point at the clumsy Borg cubes, which consume fuel like a tank when traveling through transwarp (and one ship's attack thus always depletes the Borg's deuterium reserves for several years).
Although each Automaton has assigned tasks and goals, they alternate in individual fields according to their inclination, as they all understand all sciences without any problems. Thus, number 313, whose proper name is Loglana, in the 24th century of the human calendar, began to study organics in the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way.
In her explorations, she was very careful, knowing from their history and cultural databases how paranoid humanoids (and humans in particular) are when it comes to robots or other artificial species. Automaton 196 Robbie once tried to educate people directly on Earth under the pseudonym Asimov. However, he chose an unfortunate medium. Humanity gradually abandoned books, and his short stories and novels about good robots were forgotten by history. In contrast, moving pictures showing murderous Terminators, SkyNet, the Matrix, or the psychotic HAL 9000 enjoyed ever-growing popularity. Robbie therefore warned Loglana not to reveal her identity under any circumstances during her stay among humans.
In the first years of research, Loglana had to agree with the previous records. How people behaved towards androids, computers, and holograms was terrible. However, she found that proverbial unicorn, an exception to the rule, in the noble Captain Seal. She joined his ship as first officer under the alias Erin Lontra to observe everyday life from the perspective of Starfleet. Over months and later years of joint service, she learned a lot and developed a deep respect for her commanding officer. The benefit was mutual; Loglana’s abilities and ingenuity often saved the entire ship and the captain himself.
Character:
Loglana is bright and capable, she can be uncompromising and gentle, exactly as the given situation requires. Her desire to explore the unknown is complemented by rational logic, all perfectly balanced thanks to the nature of her dual brain. And although she shares the enthusiasm for exploration with her captain, she herself is much more cautious. As second in command of the Trondheim, she thus serves as a safeguard against Seal's occasional recklessness.
